What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees, which is generally organized by a MUN club or the school or a University. Here, Students take on the roles of UN representatives and members of other international bodies and national cabinets, and learn about the workings of international politics and problem solving. The UN came up with the Sustainable Development goals or so called millennium development goals, to monitor the growth.
By engaging in topics concerning security, economic development, and social progress, delegates learn to navigate the complexities of international negotiation and teamwork, adopt new perspectives and develop comprehensive resolutions to pressing global issues. At the end of most conferences, outstanding delegates in each committee are recognized and given an award.
For example, a student may be assigned the United Kingdom and will have to solve global topics such as nuclear non-proliferation or climate change from the policies and perspectives of the United Kingdom.
